Tapers
The taper of a rod describes the transition in diameter from the rod tip to the base of the butt, and that taper has a direct affect on any rod's action. If a rod has a very fine tip, which very quickly transforms into a very large butt diameter, it will have a very fast action. The more gradual the diameter change, the more gradual the transition, the slower the action.
